VERSION HISTORY ---------------------------------------------------------- Version 3.0 (August, 1999) All Reports: - Removed the 20,000 line report limit. - Changed the way reports are generated, resulting in decreased memory usage and an exponential speedup. - Added a "batch" interface that allows you to generate reports in an unattended manner via the command line. You can use the system scheduler to automatically run a report at a given time (for example: every Monday at 4:00 AM). - Modified all date formats to show 4-digit years. - Added the ability to choose between 3 date formats: MM/DD/YYYY, DD/MM/YYYY, or YYYY/MM/DD. (Initially defaults to the local Regional setting.) - Added a "No Sorting" option to speed up the generation of large reports (typically used with Tab-Delimited output that will be sorted in another application). - Added the ability to include "Created" and "Last Accessed" dates in reports (in addition to the existing "Last Modified" date). - Added the ability to include sequence numbers in reports (sequentially numbers each detail line). - Changed Regular format reports to always show footer totals (even if terminated with the Esc key). - Added Computer Name and Volume Name info to Regular report headers. - Reformatted Regular report headers to make them easier to read. Directory Size Reports: - Added "percent of total" figures to the FILES and TOTAL SIZE columns. Miscellaneous Improvements and Fixes: - Removed the ability to sort on non-reported fields. - Fixed a problem with individual file sizes over 2 GB being reported as negative numbers. - Fixed a problem with the 11-point font not displaying correctly. - Fixed a problem with improper line wrapping in Regular reports. - Added a "/faststart" command line switch. This can be used to bypass the initial network status check, speeding up the opening of SmartDir if connected to a large network. - Raised the "large report" warning dialog criteria from 2,000 lines to 50,000 lines (due to the vast improvement in speed). - Updated the Help file to reflect the new features and fix some minor context help issues. ---------------------------------------------------------- Version 2.0 (April, 1999) All Reports: - Increased the report line limit to 20,000 items. - Added the ability to generate output in Tab-Delimited format, making it easier to import report data into a Word table, an Excel spreadsheet, or an Access database. - Added the ability to specify what fields to include in a report. - Added a Network button to each report dialog, allowing you to map network drives from within the program. - Added NTFS file compression information. - Added Delete, Select All, Find, and Find Next to the Edit menu. - Added Find and Find Next buttons to the Toolbar. - Added the ability to change print page orientation and margins. - Removed report line limits for the first 20 reports generated with the unregistered version. This will allow a more meaningful evaluation. - Added a prompt that warns when a report larger than 2,000 lines is about to be generated. You can choose to proceed or cancel. - Added the ability to terminate long-running report generation with the Esc key. - Added a "File system type:" line to report headings. File Listings: - Added the ability to customize the "Files of Type:" options. - Increased the report line limit in the unregistered version to 30 items. Directory Size Reports: - Added the option to generate Detailed reports that show the size of each directory in the entire base directory tree. - Increased the report line limit in the unregistered version to 5 items. Large Files Reports: - Increased the report line limit in the unregistered version to 5 items. Deletion Candidates Reports: - Added .zip files to the "Search For" options. - Increased the report line limit in the unregistered version to 5 items. Miscellaneous Improvements and Fixes: - Statically linked the MFC routines into the program. This makes a larger executable but should eliminate problems on systems with out-of-date MFC .dll files. - Fixed the problem of SmartDir shortcuts not pointing to the correct directory if the default directory is overridden at install time. - Fixed the problem of SmartDir shortcuts not being created when installed by a non-Administrator user on Windows NT 4. - Increased all "total size" counters to 64-bits. This fixes problems with file systems larger than 4 GB. - Added the ability to access all registration options directly from the program. - Updated the Help file to reflect the new features. - Added an initial Welcome dialog to the unregistered version. It explains the 20 unlimited reports and subsequent report line limits. ---------------------------------------------------------- Version 1.0 (January, 1999) - Initial release ---------------------------------------------------------- =========== E N D O F R E A D M E ===========
